Hip Replacement
The hip is a ball and socket joint lined by cartilage. With advancing age or injury the cartilage may wear, exposing the underlying bone and causing pain and stiffness.
A hip replacement involves removal of the affected joint and insertion of an artificial joint replacement. The components are either fixed in place biologically or with a special bone cement. Shown is a modern titanium cementless hip prosthesis with ceramic head and a highly cross-linked bearing surface.
